Helping One Guy Honors Lieutenant Robert Milam
Lieutenant Robert Milam, who is a 20-year-plus veteran of the Kennesaw State University Police department, suffered a catastrophic loss on December 5th. His family residence caught fire and was destroyed. Everything that he and his family own was lost when this occurred. Lieutenant Milam suffered severe burns getting his family out of the house. He was rushed to a burn center and underwent several surgeries. Robbie and his family face a lengthy recovery, and as you can imagine, this will be a very stressful time for them financially.
Helping One Guy will honor Robert Milam with a dinner from 6:00-8:00PM on February 11, 2025. The dinner will be held at Freedom Church, 3611 Cobb Parkway NW, Acworth, GA 30101. Dinner is no charge to attendees, and we will be raising money to help Lieutenant Milam recover and rebuild.
Lieutenant Milam said the flames spread so quickly, they could barely escape, but he battled his way through the flames to get his fiancé, Misty Nelson, to safety - at one point he ran through a doorway that was engulfed in flames. “I needed to hold my breath because I didn’t want to breathe in any flames,” he said. “I knew I was going to run through it because that was the only way to get back to where she was. My face was burnt, my ears. They did skin grafts.” Without Lieutenant Milam's heroic efforts, Ms. Nelson never would have made it out alive. He was severely burned in saving her life but said he is so grateful they are both alive.
Robbie arrived at the hospital with burns to nearly 22% of his body. He was in the hospital for 16 days and underwent 3 surgeries. His third surgery was a skin graft procedure. Doctors removed skin from his left thigh and placed it on his arm, hands, and feet. Now, he’s out of the hospital, staying at another property he owns, which his co-workers helped him fix up just in time for Christmas. Of course, his recovery will be a long road. Misty is grateful not only that she has her life, but that the two could spend the holidays together. “I’m excited that he’s doing so much better. It’s been a long few weeks,” she said.
Helping One Guy exists to help and support one man at a time, and his family, who is going through a life changing crisis. Helping One Guy provides that one man with a financial gift, rallies the community around him, and shows him that he is not walking alone. Robbie and Misty fit H.O.G.'s purpose and mission ideally.
Lieutenant Milam has served his community for over two decades and would give anyone the shirt off his back. For this to happen at any time would be difficult, but during the Christmas season, only made things more difficult. He has dedicated his career to helping those in need and serving his community, and now he needs our help. The loss of his family home, all of their belongings, and the medical bills will be overwhelming, but with love and support from the local community, we can help alleviate the financial burden that his family will be facing. Please join Helping One Guy in honoring Robert Milam. Please pray. Please give. Please come out on February 11 to show Robbie he is not walking alone.
